Walter Pater was an English essayist and art critic who though never a proper member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood nonetheless was deeply influential on the movement through his critical writings on the Renaissance and ancient Greeks. He is credited with being one of the forefathers of the Aesthetic Movement and is credited as an influence on Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, Roger Fry, T.S. Eliot, and Ezra Pound, among others.
